Xmas Giveaway, Day 1: Item 2

Item 2 in the Christmas Giveaway is a book, Rags-to-Riches Bride by Mary Nichols, which I gave a 2.5 out of 5 in August 2010, but you might like it better. Or worse! Who knows! :D It's part of the Mills & Boon Historical line, which means we're talking 1837 here, aww.

See what you make of it!

Secrets and Scandals!

Impoverished beauty Diana Bywater must keep her circumstances secret - her job at Harecrofts depends on it! Then an unwanted marriage proposal from the younger Harecroft son threatens everything...

No stranger to secrets himself, Captain Richard Harecroft is suspicious of this obviously gently reared girl who has turned his brother's head. He is determined to discover if she is a gold-digger out to exploit the family. But the closer he gets, the more the mystery of Diana deepens - and the more he desires her as his bride!

Giveaway closes at some point during 27 December 2011. Winner will be chosen at random and contacted and with a bit of luck, has responded with some form of contact details so I can send it when the post office opens again on the 28th.

Remember, I need to be able to contact you and get your postal address if you win, so if you're not on Facebook, Etsy, Twitter or any other way of getting in touch, it will be hard to let you know you've won, and so on, so in order to be in with a chance of winning, add some kind of contact details and answer the following qualifying question: What's your favourite literature rags-to-riches story? (Hint: Mine's gotta be Jane Eyre.)

This giveaway is open worldwide.

Good luck! Santa's bag re-opens again tomorrow. :)

  1. My favorite rags-to-riches is most definitely the Anne series--and before you say "but it's not rags-to-riches!" I know. It doesn't fit the official mold, but she's an orphan with nothing who becomes a doctor's wife. Plus all the happiness and family and such. :)
    My email's annewebinfo@gmail.com
Thanks for the giveaways! Very fun.

  2. Thanks for including an explanation, because if you had just said "Anne", I probably would've scratched my head. I read those books when I was maybe 10-12 years old, so don't remember much. Strangely, I seem to recall her on a cart with Matthew (?), arriving at Green Gables. But yes, I'd say it's rags to (perhaps very moderate) riches as she starts out a penniless orphan. :)

  3. Hej Traxy :)
I think mine would be Twain's "The Prince and the Pauper", but love the Anne-series too, although I haven't read all the books, as we don't have them where I live.
My e-mail is kepamaris@hotmail.com, but I have also contacted you in FB (in summer about Thomas Anderson).

Weeell, when we are on the subject my favourite rags-to-riches story is Förförd av fienden (don't know what it is called in English but the translation straight off is Seduced by the enemy). It's a Harlequine Historic novell about this guy (knight) who wants revenge agains a dead man (kindy hard because he is dead, slayed by his sisters husband) and suddenly the king tells him he needs to marry the dead mans neice. All he can see is revenge but when he meet the young girl with flaming hair and green eyes (and a temper) he gets other ideas as they go along. He still try to tell himself he hates her but... well guess you can take it from there. She use to be a servent and then ended up almost becoming a nun before being forced to marry the dark knight and being the households mistress...
I don't do this for the price, not that interested to be honest. I have access to about 400 Harlequine historic books at moms but wanted to share my favourite anyway :D

  5. Yeah, your mum probably has this one somewhere, to be fair. :)

Is that the book you've told me about before? No, wait, that one has like a pirate in it or something, I think.

  6. Ahh, Mark Twain. Need to read some of his novels! Remember reading Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn when I was younger. :)
