Happy St. Patrick's Day 2012!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Even though I'm not Irish this time around, I still like to observe St. Patrick's Day. And as is traditional for me on the blog, here is an Irish song. This rendition of Óró, Sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile is from a 2002 live performance of traditional songs by Sinéad O'Connor. I really like her version of it. If you've seen The Wind That Shakes the Barley, it's sung by the characters.
Óró, Sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile
(Text by Patrick Pearse)
Óró, sé do bheatha 'bhaile,
Óró, sé do bheatha 'bhaile,
Óró, sé do bheatha 'bhaile
Anois ar theacht an tsamhraidh
'Sé do bheatha, a bhean ba léanmhar,
Do b' é ár gcreach tú bheith i ngéibheann,
Do dhúiche bhreá i seilbh méirleach,
Is tú díolta leis na Gallaibh
CHORUS
Tá Gráinne Mhaol ag teacht thar sáile,
Óglaigh armtha léi mar gharda,
Gaeil iad féin is ní Gaill ná Spáinnigh,
Is cuirfidh siad ruaig ar Ghallaibh
CHORUS
A bhuí le Rí na bhFeart go bhfeiceam,
Mura mbeam beo ina dhiaidh ach seachtain,
Gráinne Mhaol agus míle gaiscíoch,
Ag fógairt fáin ar Ghallaibh
perfect way to start the day and put my in a shakespeare mood!
ReplyDeleteall day rehearsals today-
I do like that version! Thanks for the link. Will check out The Wind That Shakes the Barley--sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteHappy St. Patrick's Day, from one who's mother family immigrated to England from Ireland in the 1840s.
It's a Ken Loach film that's quite brutal in parts, depicting a couple of brothers (one played by Cillian Murphy) in Cork during the Irish War of Independence.
