What about straight actors in gay roles?

Image
The subject of a gay actor playing straight parts has come up in the comments before, but I think for me personally, that's more to do with the actor's skills than anything else. For instance, if a certain actor we all love and are really devoted to would turn out to bat for the other team, as it were, some people would argue that it would be too weird to watch him play straight relationships on screen. For instance, wouldn't it be weird if Thornton was gay in real life? Don't look like no limp wrists to me, sonny. I think it's more to do with how the actor portrays the character. With Thornton, I'd say "whoa boy, you sure could've fooled me!" for instance. In Serenity , we finally see Kaylee and Simon get together. The actor playing Simon, Sean Maher, came out last year. Him and Kaylee? That seems genuine enough to me.

And you call yourself a Richard Armitage fan?

It's been just about a year since I wrote that post about IF Richard Armitage was gay, what's it got to do with us ? This has since become the most read and the most commented post on this blog, for better or for worse. Hotly debated issue, apparently. The thing that strikes me is how people look upon the subject. A lot of comments were very supportive, saying if he was gay, it might spoil the illusion somewhat, but all in all, if that's who he is, then that's who he is. Others claimed to have evidence of him being a homosexual, but from what I gather, it's really only based on hearsay, rumourmongering and/or "gut feelings". Personally, I'd be interested to hear a gay man's views on this. Why? Because everyone in the debate is female, and the vast majority, if not all, are straight. Ever heard the term "gaydar"? Whose gaydar is more likely to be accurate - a straight female's or a homosexual male's? I know who I'd vote for

Simon Tam is gay - well, his actor is

So it appears our favourite doctor in outer space is gay. If you thought of McCoy or someone else who isn't Simon Tam of TV series Firefly or movie Serenity , then you thought of the wrong guy. :P Sean Maher has come out, after 14 years hiding in the closet. He's had a partner for the past nine years and they have two children together. I knew about the kids, he mentioned them on Twitter (he's @ Sean_M_Maher by the way) before, but didn't know their origin.

W13 back for seconds

Warehouse 13 - SyFy (*shudders*) Channel's quirky show about a couple of FBI agents out to grab, bag 'n' tag magical artefacts and store them safely in a big ol' warehouse - is back for a second season. It starts airing in the US on July 13, with twelve episodes. My hopes and dreams are for the character who seemed to have been killed off actually wasn't. After all, s/he did carry that regeneration artefact at the time, so chances are we're just led to believe s/he died, when in fact, s/he is still alive. Please let it be so, it was only the bestest character in the show! Also, if that wasn't exciting enough, one of the episodes has as its guest stars Jewel Staite and Sean Maher, or Kaylee and Simon from Firefly (an awesome and far too cancelled TV show) and Serenity (an awesome film). I'm all tingly! And they're going to play a couple... or sorts. This time, it's Maher's character who has unrequited love for Staite's, not the othe
