An A-Z summary of everything Sam Neill has ever been in

Image
If you've ever wanted a very short summary of everything Sam Neill has ever been in, this is it! Not every single thing, I admit, but I'm working on that! :) And by this, I would like to wish the man a very happy birthday! Happy birthday, Mr. Neill, hope you have a great one, with plenty of that fabulous wine of yours, and may your orchards prosper! (And no more of them earthquakes we read about hitting the South Island!) Ah, sweet fangirly wallpaper! An A-Z summary of everything Sam Neill has ever been in* * according to IMDb A Cry in the Dark (1988) Sam in shorts. With a camera. Angel (2007) Sam as a literary agent. Attack Force Z (1982) Sam in a canoe. Bicentennial Man (1999) Sam with robot. Blood of Others, the (1984) Sam as a nazi. Brush-Off, the (2004) Sam directed. "Who Am I?"

Image
Here's a story I wrote in 2004, just for the fun of it. It's jam-packed with references to movies and shows - and some off-screen stuff - with one common denominator. Guess who! :) (Not that the post tagging or 10-second Photoshop job of a picture gives it away or anything...) "Who Am I?" Mr. Actor-in-Cleverest-Disguise-Ever! Or not. Let's face it. To be the Antichrist isn't all it's cracked up to be. You can never find a decent girl, because all the ones you hang out with look at you with a dumb expression of awe. It's nice to be considered a god on occasion, but sometimes you just want to be loved. There is the proper kind of woman you want, of course, and if she has a kid, it's great! Package deal: pawn and mistress for the price of one! She might object to using her only child as a satanic agent, but hey - if you get bored, just tell her a dingo took her baby! She might object to being raped, however, and she might also end up stabbing y

World Cup kicks off - yawn

Image
"Will you be following the World Cup this year, Miss Dashwood?" "Indeed I will not, Mr. Ferrars. I find football most disagreeable." Any football fans out there? (Soccer fans if you're American.) I couldn't give a stuff about the World Cup personally. Apparently, Sweden's not even in it - nor did we make it to the Eurovision final, gasp! At present, England is at a standstill, because they're playing the USA. So far, it's 1-1 and it's about 15 minutes to go. It being the World Cup means "but now there's nothing decent on telly for ages !" - or is there? Actually, there is. The channels are exceedingly agreeable, as it happens! One channel's showing Sense & Sensibility '95, another one's showing Pride & Prejudice '95. Another one is showing Notting Hill . It's chick flick heaven! And it'll go on during the World Cup so that all of us who give a collective yawn at a bunch of blokes chasing

Friday fancies

On the train back from work, I saw a guy who seriously looked like Sam Neill. He had glasses and reminded me a lot of this piccy here (from Sirens ). Put a smile on my face, that did. Think he got off in Hucknall, so if you look like a '93 Sam Neill in glasses reading this and live in Hucknall - you rock! Pixar/Disney have announced a Monsters Inc. sequel, apparently. Don't really remember the first one, but it was cute...? The One Show 's resident grumpy Brummie Adrian Chiles is defecting to ITV , gasp! How very dares he! Top Gear will be getting a US spin-off. Well done! Top Gear is a brilliant show. I know it's about cars, but why watch it for the motors when the guys are hilarious? Not many people would try to make a rocking chair and a blender from a V8 engine... ;) One American remake that apparently isn't going ahead at the moment is Torchwood , the Doctor Who spin-off. They were making an American version? What on earth for? I mean, the original

Sam on vampires

In an article on the NOW Magazine website, namely this one: NOW Magazine // Movies // Q&A: Sam Neill , there's the following quote: The movie’s bloodthirsty quality makes a nice change from all the Twilight stuff. To be honest, I don’t particularly like a lot of them. For “vampire,” read “emo” – the disaffected, boring youths I put up with because I have teenagers. These people come drooping through my door, and I don’t particularly care for them. When they get to 21, they’ll be fine, but in the meantime they like vampires – and boring vampires. Aww, you da man, Mr. Neill! :D If I didn't love you already! He's in a vampire movie (with proper vampires, the fanged, non-sparkly kind who don't do garlic, mirrors or sunshine) called Daybreakers which premiered here in the UK yesterday. We're thinking of going to see it on Saturday. A Sam movie the Squeeze actually wants to watch! The movie also features Ethan Hawke and is probably more the Squeeze's cuppa tea t

The Bad Guys List

This is a general hommage to my favourite baddies from films and TV! :D The deliciously malicious people who you might love to hate, or hate to love... or just outright fancy. Whatever floats your boat. Most, if not all, of my favourite baddies are either Magnificent Bastards or Smug Snakes according to the TV Tropes Wiki. The two personality types being quite similar. What would Freud say? If I could make out in which order I prefer them, I would list them like that, but since I can't, I'll just go with an A-Z. So to speak. The links are to YouTube clips for the most part. Last revised: 3 June 2011.

Proof that drugs are bad!

Picking up a curry at the local takeaway tonight, I spotted a headline on the Daily Mail on the table: Taking the pill for past 40 years 'has put women off masculine men' . If ever there was a headline to catch my eye...! It basically says that there might be a correlation between using contraceptive pills and finding more feminine-looking guys attractive. To proove a point, the article is illustrated with pics from different eras. Kirk (not Kurt) Douglas in the 50s, for instance - now, with regards to him and Donald Sutherland, I've always thought their sons were way better-looking, to be honest. It then moves on to Sean Connery and ends with Zac Efron now in the "naughties". If the Pill would make me fancy Zac Efron... I ain't taking it! (Which I'm not and have no plans to, so there you go! The hormones in my body are all my own.)

They Like to Boogie

Amazing video! How can you not just LOVE that man?

BBC's Robin Hood, season 3

We saw season one when it came out. Had to see if it was any good. It wasn't all that great, but at least it's a heck of a lot better than the atrociousness known as Merlin (the BBC series, not the awesome American miniseries with Sam Neill from 1998, which I love dearly). Didn't see much of season two, but saw bits of it. Season three... wouldn't have been very interested in it if it wasn't for the fact that I found out that not only would Prince John make appearances, he would (more importantly) be played by Toby Stephens. Two sides to this coin. Or actually, I list about five, so that's a well freaky coin as it happens, but I've had some Sheridan's liqueur so I'm excused.

Spotlight Squee: Sam Neill

The moment has finally arrived! A great big happy birthday to Sam Neill! Here's the story... Who is this person? Sam Neill is an actor and a director, who also has his own vinyard in central Otago in New Zealand. He was born 14 September 1947 in Omagh, Northern Ireland, but moved to New Zealand as a child. Eventually, he became an actor and is perhaps most known to people as Alan Grant in Jurassic Park (films 1 and 3)... but he's been in a myriad of other things. Some more memorable than others. How did I find this person? Well, there are a few different explanations here, because there are a few different occasions. The first one was watching the music video to Michael Nyman's "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" in school - the theme to the critically acclaimed film The Piano (it's actually rather good, even though it's critically acclaimed). I thought "oh hello" - and I can't have been more than 10 or 11 at the time... Second was watc
