#FanstRA Thorin Does Nottingham, part 1

Image
WEDNESDAY So yesterday, 3" Thorin and I got talking about the lack of lonely mountains and dragons to slay around here, so I decided to take him on a tour of Nottingham, and letting him see the sights. Perhaps he would find something around here worth sticking around for, even if there's no treasure or glorious battles involved ... Here's how we got on!

The worst movies of all time - Guest post by Ben

Smile, you're in a romcom! It seems that Hollywood churns out films these days with little regard for authenticity, class or style. Script and substance are squashed by cheesy lines and outrageous CGI in the rapidly homogenising movie industry. This doesn’t deter cinema goers, who are happy to spend their hard-earned cash on the spiralling price of film tickets, as well as £8 on some puffed up corn, carbonated water and syrup. Yet from time to time, even this monolith of consumerist mediocrity can drop a blooper so bad that the public can’t stomach it. After much research amongst the Blockbuster bone-yard, some truly horrific finds have surfaced. There actually is such a thing as Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2 (2004) which recounts the wacky adventures of infants fighting to save America’s freedom … for the second time. Yes, there was a Baby Geniuses One (1999), which clearly failed to impress viewers any more than its sequel, as the consensus amongst critics is that both mo

Batman returns ... soon

How's about a trailer for the upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises , to whet your appetite? Part three of three with Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne is out 19 July in Australia, 20 July in the UK, USA and Canada, with Scandinavia and most of the rest of Europe 25-26 July. Can't wait to see Wollaton Hall as Wayne Manor! :D

Batman: The Dark Night Rises - trailer #2 released

Lots of trailers to post about today. Okay, not lots ... more like two. Still, that's two more than usual. Look out for Wollaton Hall in the background! :D I'm not sure I'm all that grabbed by the trailer itself, but I do jump with glee over seeing Wollaton Hall in it.

Teasers for Batman: The Dark Knight Rises

One of these days, I should make a post with the pictures I took when skulking around Wollaton Hall, but they're not all that interesting. You can't see anything, as there was a wall and a gate and stuff in front and from the angle you could see into the park, you could only see a car park in the distance. So instead, here's the teaser trailer:

R.I.P. Columbo + more Batman news

With great sadness, we have learned of the death of  Columbo - Peter Falk. He was 83 years old when he died in Beverly Hills on Thursday. Apparently, he had suffered with dementia for a few years. Heard on the radio that he was fairly similar to his super sleuth character in real life. And "just one more thing ..." R.I.P. Peter Falk. You'll always be remembered - both as Columbo and as the grandfather in The Princess Bride . In more positive news, Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz have tied the knot . Congratulations! :) Latest news from Nottingham: Last night, driving past some traffic lights near Wollaton Hall, saw a yellow temporary road sign saying "WB LOC" and an arrow pointing toward the Hall, which I tried taking a photo of today. Wasn't successful. (We stopped too far from the traffic lights and they weren't red for long enough.) It made me go "ooooh!!" in the car. A Warner Brothers location practically in our neck of the woods! How co
