100th anniversary of Titanic

In the early hours of 15 April 1912, over 1500 people were lost at sea in the biggest maritime disaster in history: the sinking of the RMS Titanic. A disaster that could have easily been averted or even avoided. Today, we remember those who met their watery grave that night.

  1. While it was one of the most unnesscary and also one of the most educational maritime disasters, it was not the biggest. So not to mitigate the memory of those from the Titanic, but if we have it in our hearts it might be good to also extend it to the about 9500 victims of the biggest maritime disasters in history: The sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff at the end of WWII.

  2. Fascinating. And tragic. Wonder why we never hear about that one?

Could be argued that RMS Titanic was the biggest accident, while MV Wilhelm Gustloff was the biggest in total.
